This interview forms part of the Kirkcudbright Artists Remembered project. This project was active during the refurbishment of the Kirkcudbright Town hall into the Kirkcudbright Galleries centre and was undertaken as a partnership between the Kirkcudbright Harbour Cottage Trust and the EERC. In this interview Valerie Sadler (aged 86) talks about the Whitehouse Gallery in Kirkcudbright, which was started by her son in 2004, and takes a long view of arts patronage in Kirkcudbright. Valerie talks about the challenges facing artists and of her own experiences. This interview focusses especially on her friendship and long association with the artist, Archie Sutter Watt, who came to the area as a young man and lived there until his death, aged 90. She recalls working with Archie to deliver the Kirkcudbright Academy summer schools and talks about her commitment to promoting his work and her role as trustee of the Archie Sutter Watt Trust Fund.
